In today's rapidly changing world, businesses are increasingly being held accountable for their social and environmental impact. As a response, the concept of B Corp certification has emerged, recognizing businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. San Diego is cultivating a rich ecosystem of businesses committed to those principles, and are learning from each other as part of the B Local San Diego coalition. 

 

Spark @ USD seeks to connect students to action by providing opportunities for them to learn in concert with innovative leaders, and develop skills and knowledge to tackle real-world challenges. That's why our students have begun creating social media videos about San Diego's B Corp certified businesses, interviewing leaders from those businesses in order to learn about their commitment to social and environmental responsibility.

 

 

This project serves a dual purpose: it provides valuable exposure for the B Corp certified businesses in San Diego, helping to raise awareness about their positive impact, while also giving our students an opportunity to apply their learning about the B Corp movement and corporate social responsibility, in a practical, hands-on way. The videos are being shared on social media platforms, helping to spread the message of responsible business practices and inspiring others to support B Corp certified businesses.

 

In addition to creating the videos, the Kroc School students are gaining valuable experience in interviewing business leaders and understanding the complexities of sustainable business practices. These skills will be useful in their future careers as they work to create positive change in the business world. Additionally, this endeavor highlights the importance of collaboration between universities and the business community. 

Spark @USD has a goal of producing six videos this fall, and is excited about the next iteration of this endeavor. More news to come soon!
