On February 1, Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice Executive Director Andy Blum presented during San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention's monthly meeting. San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention is a coalition of organizations and citizens working to prevent gun violence through advocacy and education.
During his presentation, Dr. Blum introduced the Kroc IPJ’s "learning with" approach, which emphasizes co-creating actionable research in collaboration with community partners. This method ensures that research is deeply informed by the lived experiences of those actively working to prevent violence in their communities.
As an evaluation partner for the Peacemaker Project,—a three-year, state-funded initiative focused on holistic violence prevention in San Diego—the Kroc IPJ supports partner organizations with data collection, project monitoring, and reporting.
Dr. Blum also discussed the future of community violence prevention, particularly in relation to federal and state funding. He concluded by highlighting the significant progress made in reducing violence nationwide, including in San Diego.

About the Author
The Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice (Kroc IPJ) launched in 2001 with a vision of active peacebuilding. In 2007, the Kroc IPJ became part of the newly established Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, a global hub for peacebuilding and social innovation. The core of the Kroc IPJ mission is to co-create learning with peacemakers — learning that is deeply grounded in the lived experience of peacemakers around the world, that is made rigorous by our place within a university ecosystem and that is immediately and practically applied by peacemakers to end cycles of violence.
