Help Kroc School Students Advance Their Careers
As you can imagine, many of our students are learning that their summer internships have been canceled or significantly reduced. Likewise, the economic downturn has drastically altered the job market, layering additional hardship on our graduating students. The success and well-being of our students and graduates depends on their ability to find work and internships in the midst of this crisis.
There are two important ways you can help our students at this moment. The first is to help the Kroc School identify remote or hybrid internship positions and job opportunities. The second is to volunteer to help mentor our students and hone their interviewing and other professional skills.
Hiring our students
Many of our students in the Class of 2020 are seeking jobs. If you are aware of any opportunities — including part-time or short-term positions, or positions with delayed starts — please share them to marissanewman@sandiego.edu. Our students in the MA in Social Innovation, MA in Peace & Justice, and MS in Conflict Management & Resolution bring expertise and practice experience in areas such as social entrepreneurship, conflict management, social justice advocacy, and humanitarian services. We are looking for opportunities in diverse fields, such as:

Securing remote internship placements
Our continuing MA in Peace & Justice students are searching for internship placements — this summer and over the course of the next academic year. If your workplace is able to offer a remote opportunity to our students, please let us know at marissanewman@sandiego.edu.
To get a sense of the kinds of organizations our students would like to intern for, please see this list of recent placements.
Volunteering to Coach and Mentor our students
The Kroc School’s Mentoring Alliance Program is looking to expand its network of mentors for our students across all three degree programs — the MA in Social Innovation, the MA in Peace & Justice, and the MS in Conflict Management & Resolution. As a mentor, you would be paired with a student aligned with your area of expertise, and give them professional advice and support as they embark on their careers.
We recently launched a new virtual mock interview initiative, which helps our students hone their professional pitch. We are looking for professionals to conduct mock sessions with them, and help them learn what it takes to ace their next interview.
If you are interested in volunteering as a mentor or as an interviewer, please let us know at marissanewman@sandiego.edu.

About the Author
The Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice (Kroc IPJ) launched in 2001 with a vision of active peacebuilding. In 2007, the Kroc IPJ became part of the newly established Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, a global hub for peacebuilding and social innovation. The core of the Kroc IPJ mission is to co-create learning with peacemakers — learning that is deeply grounded in the lived experience of peacemakers around the world, that is made rigorous by our place within a university ecosystem and that is immediately and practically applied by peacemakers to end cycles of violence.
