Written by Andrew Biros, Ed.D. | Feb 20, 2024 8:06:45 PM

In the realm of higher education and social innovation, authentic, experiential learning stands unparalleled. It is with this conviction that we journey annually to Rwanda, a nation distinguished not only by its vibrant spirit but also by a social innovation ecosystem that is as dynamic as it is transformative. Under the guidance of Spark @ USD's esteemed Faculty Director, Professor Austin Choi-Fitzpatrick, students embark on a journey that transcends mere observation. They delve into the essence of Rwanda's remarkable journey towards social and economic ascendancy, embracing its historical context and the visionary paths its citizens are forging towards prosperity.

A Mosaic of Insights and Discovery

During a recent sojourn, we tasked our students with a unique challenge: to capture, in real-time, their observations, learnings, and reflections as they navigated the multifaceted landscape of Rwanda. The resulting compilation is a rich mosaic of perspectives, each narrative interwoven with the next to form a comprehensive tapestry of insight, inspiration, and profound understanding.

This auditory journey is more than a recounting of experiences; it is a call to delve into the essence of social innovation, to contemplate the enduring power of resilience, and to be moved by the boundless potential that emerges when individuals unite in the pursuit of meaningful change. Through the lens of our students and under the discerning leadership of Professor Choi-Fitzpatrick, we have produced a narrative that encapsulates the profound impact of social innovation and the transformative essence of experiential learning.
